Waste Disposal Guidelines

Guidelines for Proper Trash Disposal and Recycling

1. Proper Trash Disposal

Accepted Materials:

  • General household waste (e.g., food scraps, non-recyclable packaging)
  • Small quantities of yard waste (e.g., leaves, grass clippings)
  • Non-hazardous materials (e.g., broken household items, small furniture)

Prohibited Items:

  • Hazardous Materials: Batteries, paint, chemicals, and other hazardous waste must not be placed in your trash bin. Please refer to local hazardous waste disposal guidelines for proper disposal.
  • Large Appliances: Items like refrigerators, washing machines, and other large appliances are not accepted in regular trash pickup. Please contact us for information on junk removal services.
  • Construction Debris: Heavy materials like concrete, bricks, and other construction debris are prohibited. For disposal, inquire about our roll-off dumpster services.
  • Tires and Automotive Parts: These items cannot be disposed of in regular trash. Contact local recycling centers or inquire about specialized disposal services.

Bin Placement:

  • Place your trash bin curbside by 6:00 AM on your designated pickup day.
  • Ensure the lid is securely closed to prevent spillage or access by animals.
  • Keep the area around your bin clear of obstacles to ensure easy access by our trucks.

Additional Services:

  • Extra Garbage Cans: If your household produces more waste than a single bin can handle, additional cans are available for a fee. Contact us for pricing and details.
  • Closer Pickup for Disabled or Unable Individuals: If you are unable to bring your trash bin to the curb, we offer pickup services closer to your home. Please reach out to us to arrange this service.

2. Proper Recycling Services

Accepted Recyclable Materials:

  • Paper and Cardboard: Newspapers, magazines, office paper, and flattened cardboard boxes.
  • Plastics: Bottles, containers, and packaging marked with recycling symbols #1 through #7.
  • Metals: Aluminum cans, tin cans, and clean foil.
  • Glass: Bottles and jars (clear, green, or brown).

Prohibited Recyclable Materials:

  • Non-Recyclable Plastics: Items without recycling symbols or marked with symbols other than #1-7.
  • Contaminated Materials: Food-soiled items, greasy pizza boxes, or dirty containers.
  • Hazardous Materials: Batteries, electronics, and chemical containers should not be placed in recycling bins.
  • Plastic Bags: Do not place plastic bags in your recycling bin; instead, recycle them at designated drop-off locations.

Preparation of Recyclables:

  • Cleaning: Rinse all containers to remove food residue before placing them in the recycling bin.
  • Sorting: Flatten cardboard and ensure that all items are placed loosely in the bin, not bagged.
  • Placement: Place your recycling bin curbside by 6:00 AM on your designated recycling day.

Discounts for Combined Services:

Customers who subscribe to both trash and recycling services receive a 25% discount on recycling services. This ensures that your recyclables are handled safely and efficiently.

Standalone Recycling Services:

For those who only need recycling services, Delmarva Disposal offers weekly recycling pickup at $5 per week, including a 50-gallon recycling bin.
